Mo' Joe
Yet another Joe Haldeman book. In fact the last one of the three that I bought a little while ago. Guardian is a very nice tale - a pleasant stroll through a life with a science-fictional incident in the middle. A quiet homage to all those writers from before the time of John W Campbell who had their ordinary characters go on extraordinary voyages.
But that isn't what really matters. What matters is that for yet another book, Joe has got a powerful, possibly immortal character show up in the lives of ordinary humans and guide them on their way to a better future. To slightly paraphrase John Madden - once is an event, twice is a trend, three times is evidence. I think the phrase I'm looking for is "guardian angel fixation". Draw your own conclusions.
