A message to all my Australian friends:
The Fan Fund of Australia and New Zealand (FFANZ) election race is now on for somebody to attend the 2007 NZ natcon here in Welly. I expect one or more of you to be on the ballot. You will need a Kiwi nominator - first one to ask gets my nomination (I can arrange others if necessary).

I'd like to nominate, but I don't know how well I fit into the "fan" category. I'm a writer/editor much more than a commentator/observer.

I mean, I consider myself a fan, but I don't know that I'm active in fandom, if you appreciate the distinction.

Do you attend cons? Do you run events at cons? Have you been involved in running a con, club or other event? Are you well known in the fan community?

Those (particularly the "well known") questions are the main deal for being somebody who is considered suitable. I would regard writer/editor as a plus - it means the con you are attending can put you on more panels.

Yes. Kinda - been on panels and such, doing the con book for Conflux. Yes. Not really - but it kinda depends on what "fan community" means.

I'm thinking about the NZ-Natcon regardless, though. But I'm also thinking of Swancon, which is just as far in the other direction.

It would be cool to have you at Conspiracy either as ffanz delegate or not. Remember that it is the weekend before the '07 Aussie natcon so you could do the intensive back to back con thing (I'll let you know how that goes at the end of Conflux). Of cource Swancon is very cool too.

There is no hurry over the FFANZ thing, but keep it in mind and drop Rose Mitchell a line if you need to know more.

Thinking about it, Ross, I think I'd rather do my time in fandom, then apply for a fan fund. Wouldn't want to take the opportunity from a more obvious choice. :)

I would just add that last time, admittedly at much shorter notice, Rose couldn't get any nominees at all so if you were planning to attend Conspiracy 2 anyway...

Couples are not uncommon - the current NZ delegares are Barbara & Peter Clendon. I like "mixed-up double" :-)

It would be great to have you both back over here. When you send your nomination in, let me know so I can do the Kiwi nominator thing.
