Cyber what?
Jun. 8th, 2005 11:48 pmIts funny the things which crop up. We had a discussion topics from the hat evening at Phoenix tonight and a topic relating to Cyberpunk came up. I have not really thought of Cyberpunk as a movement in years. My contention during the discussion was that as a separate movement it does not really exist any more. However the impact has not gone away. It has been absorbed into the fabric of SF - well the harder bits of SF anyway. You might even say that cyberpunk has become the basis for modern hard and space opera SF. Its an interesting thing to look at the way a movement born from a parent genre can re-integrate and influence. It may well be the norm - especially for strong movements. Perhaps that is the final indicator of the success of a movement.
Anyway, I was also reminded that I wrote this many years ago about Cyberpunk. As a description of the movement it still works for me.
