Time Zones
Apr. 4th, 2005 06:07 pmI think I am in a little timezone just by myself. I have so messed up my body clock that I seem to have tricked it into a twelve hour cycle - 8 hours awake - 4 asleep - repeat. Except it isn't really 4 hours sleep because sleeping at my desk is frowned upon.
It goes something like this:
First find out that your flight is canceled and there is no chance of getting from Wellington to Sydney in order to catch the train you have shelled out serious amounts of cash to travel on. Drive through the night to Auckland to catch flights from there - after a wait of 5 hours. Get to Sydney to find that the train is late.
The train trip was so great - the eight of us had our own carriage with our own lounge and all sorts of nice stuff. But sleep became a strange experience. I got plenty of Zs but they were not in large blocks. For a start I kept waking up when the train stopped. Then there is the matter of time zones on the train. Did you know that the train does not keep ordinary time - no it keeps "train time". The clocks change according to their own scheme and not the state boundaries.
In Perth there was the wedding (Robin Clarke and Alan Robson), then SwanCon. These occasions are by their very nature rather social - which is to say staying up late and drinking. The Con was superb fun - I will have to write more later. The fun was also present on a wine tasting trip up the Swan river. Beware of Irishwomen when they have had a few drinks - you might find yourself hitting an amusement overload.
Then flights from Perth to Sydney to Auckland. Then get in my car and drive back to Wellington through the night (and fog).
Perhaps I need to get a full nights sleep tonight. If I succeed I can think of another way to slant the last couple of weeks.
