It is the celebration of halloween today. I went outside to do some clean-up work. Something very strange was happening. It was in the very air - this feeling like things were just different to normal. I talked to my neighbour and she had also noticed how eerie it was. The very air showed no apparent movement. I have heard of this before. I think the outlanders call it something that sounds like Karm. I didn't like it - it just wasn't natural.

Things have returned to normal now and the air is flowing the way it is supposed to. It would be a shame if the strangeness stopped the children from carrying out their sacred duties of saving the adults from their burden of sugar treats. I would hate to think of the consequences if the toffees I have in the house were not taken away.

I've never been happy about trick or treating, as I see it as begging. However this year, we have moved and now have houses on either side with small children.

So I made the decision that we'd conform to the times.

We assembled a large bowl of individually wrapped treats, and held ourselves in readiness for the children to descend.

Total number of visitors for the night: two.

So we have a large bowl of treats left over which will be consumed over the next few days I suspect.

How many visitors did you get? Where they in costume?

My only real reason to support Halloween is that having kids begging for sweets is better than them burning your house down on Nov 5th. So if Halloween can replace Guy Fawkes then so much the better.

I got 3 kids - all in lord of the rings costumes. To be honest I wasn't expecting many because there is no footpath on my side of the street - I did see some go past on the other side and not cross over. I was more worried about the effect on my waistline if I couldn't unload the toffees I have - maybe I can unload them at the next phoenix meeting.

Alas it is the teenagers who are likely to burn down your house, while it is the pre-teens who wish to acquire sweets. And the wise child will ask why not have both pleasures?

Alas indeed, but I live in hope.

We purchased ten bags of soft jubes at $1 per bag, and no children turned up. None. We live down a long drive.

What do I do with ten bags of soft jubes?

(I suppose that's a dangerous question.)

Well I had lots of leftover toffees so I experimented to see how well they soften in the microwave with the thought of seeing how well they could be poured over ice cream. They go from looking a bit soft to emitting clouds of evil smelling smoke in a very short time. Is that dangerous enough?
