I was walking past The Beehive last night at 9-ish. Normally even at that hour mid-week, most of the lights are on, but last night understandably perhaps it was quite dark. Except that is for the 9th floor - all the lights were on. It made me wonder what might be happening up there in this transitional week.
  • John Key rolling around on the carpet giggling maniacally
  • JK & Bronagh "christening" the place (can you imaging HC & PD doing that? I can't and don't want to)
  • Helen Clark sitting at her desk, her fingers gripping the desk so hard that she leaves fingerprint impressions
  • HC working as normal up to the last minute
  • Phil Goff enjoying the moment and wondering what might have been - he may never officially have the job, but just for a week, it sort of notionally is his.
  • Heather Simpson stuffing vast volumes through an industrial strength paper shredder.
What do you think is going on?

If you foreign types need context, feel free to ask in the comments...

He just stikes me as the sort of person who likes to mark his terratory and that seemed slightly more likely than peeing in the corners.

hah :D

no Im guessing high flyers like Key would be more about the Moet by the case than the beer and scotch like ole Piggy...

I wonder whether the Robby Horror Show was recorded in its entirety... what a stroke of brilliance that was

Yep, I'm picking expensive bubbles too.

If that show was recorded, it is probably sitting in somebody's private collection because only a few snippets have ever surfaced.

And I'll bet JK makes Bronagh dress up as HC while they do it too.

Although now that I think about it, JK has made a number of comments recently about how much he admires HC...

I suspect HC is clearing her desk and catching up on all the homework she should have done while the big election wide game (remember those?) was on.

Something I sent to her for signature on 3 October was signed out to MC (the MoF) on 11/11. Just realised that was Armistice or Rememberance Day; how appropriate.

Well yes, I thought that the 4th option above was the most likely. Although Heather Simpson "destroying the evidence" came a close second and could have been happening concurrently.

What evidence? And evidence of what?
All prime ministerial artwork now has the correct provenance and signatures.

That we know of.

Did you see the pictures on Prime news of all the wheelie bins of shredded material being removed from ministerial offices - it is happening. There is lots of internal process that never becomes "official" documentation.

As a general policy I don't watch the news (but do watch the weather - go figure), so "no" to your question.

Yes...drafts (ahem) of papers that are yet to be "official" policy are not covered by the OIA. And legal advice, which can cover a multitude of sins.
