I tried to read Stross's Accelerando after barely making it through Singularity Sky, but gave up after 50 pages. I received the distinct impression in Accelerando that he was trying to coat the same story (technology brings the world to a singularity event) in layer after layer of glossy tech-ideas. He hurt my brain and left my heart untouched. Perhaps I need to be in a certain mood to tackle Stross.
On the other hand I really enjoyed Pushing Ice, and found Reynolds convincing me that his characters were interesting. I thought he did themes such as 'divided loyalties' and 'when friendship goes bad' quite well.
