National Character
Sep. 22nd, 2006 04:46 pmOver the years, Petone has transformed its town centre. It now has a revitalised main street with the obligatory high concentration of cafés. One thing I have observed is that there is one café which, during daylight hours, does much more business than any of the others. But it isn't on the main street. It is a few blocks north right in the middle of Petone's industrial heartwasteland. It is right in the middle of a huge hardware store. What does that say about the daytime population of the lower valley.
I should add that it is also the most family friendly café in the area with a kids play area and enough room for strollers to be parked beside the tables. On the other hand, to judge from today's experience, the coffee is awful.
