OK, I was going to write about the book I just finished but then Jeremy Clarkson announced out of my TV that the car he was driving was "as stupid and charming as owning a pet elephant". I don't know why but that just cracks me up.

The book is Big Bang by Simon Singh. Its a sound telling of the history and current state of cosmology. The writing is simple no nonsense in style which lets the history tell its own story without trying to embellish it with "clever" writing. Very well done really, but not pitched at the likes of me. If you have no scientific background then it very well might be for you. The ladybird book of the origin of the universe.

Hrm - I was tossing up going to see him speak. He'll be in Perth June 1. Haven't read Big Bang, but really quite enjoyed Fermat's Last Theorem

Of course - now I'll be in NZ, so the point is moot.
