An observation. Having your hair cut by a barber with a shakey grasp of the only language you have in common is quite a disconcerting experience. First is the worry that he has completely misunderstood your requests - he hadn't. Second, the whole barber shop banter thing is missing. There was just the snip of the scissors and the whine of an old air conditioning fan. Strange.

A question. Should I take part in Movember? I've never been a fan of wearing facial hair - it does not appeal to me. So apart from failing to shave during a weekend, I have never attempted to grow a beard or moustache. Work is getting behind this however, so I'm giving it some thought. Do you think a "mo" in Movember would suit me?

Absolutely. My problem is trying to decide whether or not to shave mine so that I can grow one next month instead of merely having one that I prepared earlier as they say on the cooking shows.

If you do try to grow a new one from scratch, I think you are morally obliged to go for a different style than currently.

That could be tricky. Quality is OK, but quantity is somewhat dodgy. The red hairs don't help the look much. Maybe I could dye the mo black.

I can't make the mo bigger (except maybe more shaggy), mostly all I can do is make it smaller. I don't have an urgent need for a Herr Hitler mo. Maybe I could dye it and go for one of those thin top of lip moustaches.

I can see you with a dark narrow mo - you could cultivate a Mexican accent to go with it..

If you do grow a mo, photographs are obligatory.

Never miss a chance to become more hirsute. No such thing as too much hair.

To take part in the proper event you do have to have your photo taken. For me personally, that is one of the biggest disincentives.

Surely you only have to photograph the mo.

Sadly for me - no.

Go for the moustache and van Dyke beard - it would suit you.

Believe me, suitability has nothing to do with this exercise.
