threemonkeysSo the writers strike is on and the US networks are looking at how to re-jig their lineups. In the meantime my ISP put a cap on my bandwidth and I have to look at pruning down what I watch - something I have to do anyway because I don't have anywhere enough time to watch it all. A month or so into the season is a good time to do a cull - there have been enough episodes to make an informed opinion. Anyway, time to do an in/out list. Ignoring the few shows on broadcast here it is...
Most of the returning stuff has to stay - Heroes, QI, Weeds, Dexter, Family Guy, Earl. Only 30 Rock goes - it was a marginal watch anyway and I can always catch it when it comes around on broadcast.
Mad Men has long gone. The whole early 60s thing was fun for a bit but too many obnoxious characters.
Flash Gordon stays. Amazingly so because it is total rubbish. It is just the name I swear.
Pushing Daisies stays. Quirky & charming. I'm not sure if the premise has legs to go the distance but good so far.
Journeyman goes. The time travel stuff is a poor version of Quantum Leap and the extra character stuff does not work for me.
Bionic Woman is out. The science fiction elements are really downplayed so that it just becomes a variation on the spy story. As such, it isn't good enough to interest me despite the attractiveness of the title role characters (yes there are two).
Chuck is in. The same things that apply to Bionic Woman apply to this and yet this one has quirky charm. That is enough to keep me interested. Not forgetting the Adam Baldwin factor - I want to see if his jinx continues.
Reaper is out. It tries to be quirky but does not work as well. The stories are very formula - just a monster of the week thing.
Finally and most sadly, The Sarah Jane Adventures is out. I really wanted to like this show and after the smart and charming pilot I thought that I would. But it is just a kids show. I'm looking for layers and I cannot find them. Perhaps I'm not in touch with my inner child. Still I have the Warriors of Kudlak story to watch before I make a final decision.
That is a lot of shows isn't it. A good thing I can multi-task while I watch or I'd never do anything else.
