QB weekend without a con just does not feel right. Apart from a very nice "lets use all our wedding presents" dinner with Robin & Alan on Saturday night, I really didn't leave the house. The fact that I only actually finished one book since the last post indicates that I spend a lot of that time sleeping with maybe a bit of domestic clean up when I managed to stir myself.
The book that I finished (as distinct from the two that I'm half way through) was Ringworld's Children by Larry Niven. I have the feeling that Larry just write when he gets a bright idea which energises him. In the case of the Ringworld sequels, these ideas come from fans who keep suggesting stuff to him. I have to say the Ringworld is a pretty beguiling object for technophiles so it isn't surprising that there are a lot of ideas flowing Larry's way. For this book he seems to have taken a few which have taken his fancy and cobbled them together with a storyline. Being the wordsmith that he is, he manages to pull it together is a straightforward manner. Clarity of writing is a skill I don't think he will ever lose. But it is not a major work. It is a slight thing - a nice snack for a long wet weekend. But a snack that was most welcome when a major meal of non-fiction history just did not digest well and had to be put aside for a few days.
