It will need painting too
Jan. 22nd, 2006 08:53 pmI can actually see the fence between my place and the neighbours. Not a great cause for celebration you might think. But it has not been visible for many years - buried as it has been beneath a pretty considerable growth amount of ivy. A couple of good sessions this weekend has resulted in visible progress with most of the fence exposed although there is still a lot to do. And all this achieved without recourse to chemicals or powered equipment - I did it all with a set of loppers. The idea being that it is also part of my efforts to actually get some exercise.
I just can't exercise for the sake of exercise. Even the thought of gym type exercise drives me into fits of boredom. So I have to find things to do that are also exercise. Take a walk at lunchtime to a distant shop that I find the need to browse at, that kind of thing. Gardening, if what I do can be called that, is an obvious productive thing to do. Also, gardening does not put too much stress on the bits of my body that really start to hurt with a lot of other activity.
Having said all that, the plan isn't working all that well. When given the choice between reading or working in the garden, I usually find the lure of the printed word too great. The productivity of this weekend can be put down to my current reading project being rather tedious. Non-engaging enough to get me outside working, but yet not so bad that I stop reading it entirely and move on to another work. It is a fine line.
