New Toy Rapture
Jun. 10th, 2005 07:51 pmI find that I seem to respect synchronicity when it comes to making decisions. Despite no conscious belief in fate, it seems that fate-like events still influence me. For quite some time I have been considering buying a digital camera. I have been doing my research and had the field narrowed down to two models - a Fuji and a Nikon. One of the factors influencing me was that the best price for the Fuji (as found by Price Spy) was at a company that was listing the model as out of stock - all the other suppliers I had found were more expensive. Then in today's news paper was a full page ad by a new company specialising in parallel imports. There prominently on the top line of the ad was a picture of the Fuji camera at a price nearly 40 dollars less than the previous best price I had found. But on the downside, being parallel imported, the full warranty and service possibilities did not apply. Also I couldn't get it online - I would have to drive to Porirua (no big deal I know but still something I don't usually ever do). But then there was another ad in the newspaper from Dick Smith offering to match the price of any parallel importer but still keep the full warranty. I checked the web site and the DSE store just down Featherstone street had the Fuji camera in stock. There was nothing else for it, I ripped the parallel importer ad out of the paper and hurried on down to Featherstone street. I showed them the ad and said match that. They smiled, knocked another dollar off the competitor price and so I am now the proud owner of a shiny new Fuji camera.
