Being social in Wellington
Jul. 1st, 2010 11:12 amJust in case the publicity net missed any of you locally, the Phoenix SF society is planning a mini-con on Saturday (i.e. the 3rd). It should be fun. Well, I hope so anyway because I intend to turn up. Only for an hour or two though - I realise that I'm not in any sort of con-ready fitness state. Given how low the bar is on that particular test, I have a lot of work to do to get myself ready for the con season in late August - early September.
This Saturday, July 3rd, Phoenix Science Fiction Society Inc will be celebrating its 21st birthday at Turnbull House, Bowen St (opposite the Beehive). We are planning the mini-con as an introduction-to-convention affair with a relaxed approach to session schedules. We'll have small fun activities running in half hour gaps between hour-long discussion panels, and a gaming stream. Starting at 10am, we'll be running through to 5pm.
The cost is $5 for members and $10 for non-members. Lunch will be provided at no additional cost.
We're also planning to go out for dinner at a local restaurant at the end of the mini-con – all welcome (dinner at diner's own cost).
Events include a quiz, how well do series' end, underrated and overrated authors, films and series, a talk on science enhancements – a follow-up to “dude, where's my flying car’ - and a chat about the history of Phoenix.
We'll also have a great afternoon tea of birthday cake for our flaming chicken.
All past, present and future members welcome to attend.
Please pass this message along to anyone who has an interest in SF and Fantasy and would like to find out what it’s about.
If you have any queries, please email president (at) phoenix (dot) sf (dot) org (dot) nz
