threemonkeysThe nails in my sinuses are only small ones now. Small enough that pain killers do their job pretty well. Effective enough that I was able to get through a Phoenix committee meeting and an hour or so of a PIG before I had to run away.
Earlier in the day, I read Krakatoa by Simon Winchester. I wasn't much impressed - not a patch on The Surgeon of Crowthorne. I suspect that the fact that I know a lot more about the science of vulcanism than I do about lexicography may have made it less impressive. Even allowing for that, I found the book unstructured and lacking a coherent theme. It could have done with the services of a good editor.
