There I was eating a nice hot curry for lunch, when... crunch! I bit into something hard. Only it wasn't a foreign body in the curry - it was a bit of my own tooth which had detached itself. Arrrrhhh.

Its just a corner point of a molar and it does not hurt, but it sure is annoying. My tongue just seeks out the jagged edges. It means a visit to the dentist and the pain of paying his bill.

This is the second one this year and there will be more over the next few years - there are a number of hairline cracks in my teeth which could just let go. It may be that my "go to cons" fund may end up being spent on crowns instead. *sigh*

He doesn't like to admit that teeth under his care, crumble? I wish there was a way to stop the crumbling, but, alas, some people are just lucky in their dentition.

Its all a question of choosing the right parents. Both my parents had dentures well before they got to my age. Of course that was more common then - dentistry has come quite a way.

Still, there is more progress to be made - I would think that a spin-off of stem cell or other genetic research might enable us to culture and grow new sets of teeth.

I did well on that front. My father was a dentist and both families have notoriously good teeth. Alas, though, both parents gave me a legacy of stuff that has had me on medication all my life. Nothing big, but a whole bunch of annoying. And annoying side effects. Like crumbling teeth.
