To boldly go

threemonkeysI went into new territory today, to a city that I have only heard about - Porirua. That is right Porirua. Well OK I have gone to the homes of people who live in its various suburbs and I have gone to places like CDC for business but I have never, in all my time in the Wellington area, ever actually gone into the city centre and shopping places.
As the crow flies, Porirua is actually pretty close to where I live. If I could travel due west then it is only a couple of Ks. But I can't and so the Hutt cities and Wellington are much more convenient to go to. And to be honest, there would seem to be no real reason for me to go there that I cannot find in those more convenient places. But since I have the time and I can avoid the weekend rush I thought that I should go and verify that conjecture.
I don't think I am likely to return in a hurry. Apart from a couple of shops that don't have direct equivalents (e.g. Parallel Imported), there really is no reason to go there and those shops are no great attraction really. It all seems undistinguished and familiar - just like Lower Hutt really. A lot like Lower Hutt really.
