Worst

The worst thing about Conflux is that it is over. Sydney airport and Qantas are doing their best to overtake that though. On the way over all I had was delays and a bumpy flight. On the way back there were delays, a cancelled flight, more turbulence and terminal building air conditioning that didn't work.

Was it all worth it? Of course it was. I had a most agreeable time at Conflux. I talked to all sorts of nice interesting people, I went to many good items, I participated in 3 panels and didn't get anything thrown at me, ate some good food and bought lots of small press books. More detail and perhaps even a photo of a Dalek birthday cake later.

I guess you would have been sitting near me in Sydney's terminal waiting for your flight. The NZ flights were all delayed because of the strong headwinds - the planes arrived as much as an hour late to Australia. I bet your trip to Wellington was rather brisk, however.

Conflux was fabulous. I do like how Australian conventions have assumed different regional personalities: Conflux suits me as a writer, whereas Melbourne suits me as a fan. I do find the Canberran contingent very friendly and lots of fun. Younger, more recent fans, perhaps?

And the only reason you didn't get anything thrown at you on the panel I chaired was because Mark was sitting between us.

The Sydney to Wellington trip certainly was brisk (and bumpy and uncomfortable). I did overhear a boarding call for a FreedonAir Hamilton flight - the person seemed stressed. I'm not sure if that was better than the Qantas people who just seemed bored.

The Canberrans are young in spirit perhaps - in purely chronological age there is a good range. More recent, I think, certainly - perhaps that means the same thing.

Oh - Yet another reason to be glad Mark was there.
