...its just a perfect day. I'm looking out of my window at work and Wellington has turned on one of those perfect weather days that make you really appreciate living in this city. There are no clouds in the sky. There is just the most gentle of breeze which means that the harbour is calm but sparkling. Mt Victoria is looking green and lush and on the waterfront, the grass of Frank Kitts park is an incredibly vibrant colour - almost a caricature of the colour grass is supposed to be. When I went out earlier, the air was clean and cool with a touch of autumn crispness. It sounds like I'm trying to write some purple prose for a travel guide - but it really is like that today.

Over the last couple of weeks I and my fellow Kiwi travellers have been guilty of downplaying how good things are in New Zealand. On many occasions on the train, at the wedding, at the con and on the riverboat up the Swan we would get somebody saying "New Zealand sounds like a paradise" or something to that effect. Without wanting to denegrate our country too much, there did seem to be an obligation to make sure that such people were aware that, like everywhere, that there was a downside as well. The weather would figure quite strongly in such discussions.

Time to remind myself that I live in a country with a first world standard of living (just), a liberal government, high employment, a fairly tolerant population and every so often a perfect day comes along.

Wellington has always turned on the weather for me. And we always get plenty of wind for sailing. *grin*

Sadly, family has now moved to Greytown - but I look forward to seeing it next time I'm over.
