Clear Lucy
Aug. 20th, 2005 08:57 pmEach author has their own voice. The manner in which they convey their story own story. The voice of Lucy Sussex is more distinctive than most. I have just read A tour Guide in Utopia which I bought after its release at Continuum. I have read many of the stories before in various collections, but it was a pleasure to read them again and reacquaint myself with Lucy's wonderfully clear deceptively simple prose. She has that great writers gift of making complex things seem simple. By doing that she can tell intimate personal stories that are also enthralling yarns. The only criticism I have is that sometimes the plots are a bit predictable. That isn't enough to ever put me off though. Oh yes and one other plus factor - the first line of the bio in this book reads "Lucy Sussex was born in New Zealand".
