There are many things to love about living in the Wellington area. Access in and out of the city is not one of them. As a car driving Hutt Valley resident, I am currently more or less stranded in the city as the result of one vehicle crash. I could take the train out to The Hutt, but then I'm faced with getting from Petone station to my house. Buses from there to the general area I live are infrequent and even then there is a fair old hike involved as there is a bit of vertical elevation involved. My joints ache at the thought of it - well one currently injured joint in my foot in particular.

At least its possible tonight and in any case, the problem shouldn't last too long. Now here is the kicker - the road and the train line run alongside one another. That route is right on a fault line. THE fault line in fact - the one between the Australasian plate and the Pacific plate. You can go ages without thinking about that, but an incident like this evening reminds you.

Its just a fact of life of living in this city. The workplace has emergency kits in case the city gets cut off. People are regularly warned to keep their personal emergency kits updated - mine is I think.

At least its Friday evening. There is no shortage of distraction while I wait. It might even be considered a good thing. My social instincts could do with a prod.
