Munched my way through Year's Best Fantasy 5 in the last day or so - another from the David Hartwell and Kathryn Cramer production line. It contained lots of snack sized fantasy treats, mostly of the magic realism school. A couple of the stories were a bit flat, but generally they were very good and entertaining. And so you would hope in a "years best" anthology. The stories by Dale Bailey and Gene Wolfe were actually rather better than good but stopped short of mind blowing. You always hope for a bit of mind blowing in a collection like this. Clears out the cobwebs don't ya know.

I have a sense of deja vu - I have the feeling that I said very similar things about volume 4 plus some stuff about it being thrown together rather than compiled. I need a big set of ditto marks.
