So where is the "Real Mayonnaise"
May. 9th, 2005 08:23 pmI ask myself - can one feel affection for a supermarket? I answer myself - no, but nostalgia for when one is closed is just possible. I have been using one particular supermarket for a sizeable proportion of my grocery shopping for most of the time I have lived in Lower Hutt. It closed last week and a new Woolworths was opened in the same shopping complex to replace it.
The main reason I regret the closing of the old place is that I knew where everything was on the shelves. I could get in and out in the minimum amount of time with what I wanted - plus a quick look over the specials shelves. Now I have to learn a whole new layout. And the new place is so bright! The lighting combined with all the shiny new surfaces is quite glaring. This seems to be the case with all modern supermarkets. The old one was well lit but the lighting was quite soft and easy on the eyes.
Ah change - it just keeps coming - next thing you know, my employer will be restructured out of existence - oh wait...damn
