Wow! Ireland have beaten Pakistan in the world cup. That eliminates Pakistan from progressing to the next stage. Given the way the Pakistani board tried to subvert the rules to get their drug cheats in the side, I have no sympathy for them at all. So now is the time to embrace my maternal grandfather's heritage and cheer the Irish on. Adding that to the Kiwi victory over England makes for a pretty good weekend of cricket.

Are you referring to the rugby where they won but were pipped for the 6 nations title by France. Or are you referring to St Paddy's day? I have this feeling that it isn't the big deal in Ireland that it is in the rest of the world. Still, its a good time to be Irish.

St Paddy's Day and cricket. I didn't hear about the rugby.

Everyone around me is making snake jokes right now to celebrate St Patrick's Day. Maybe for St Patrick's next trick he could drive the snake jokes away?

Gosh, I've never heard the snake jokes. People here just mutter about drinking large amounts of Guinness. Except that Guinness isn't so popular in Ireland anymore and for that matter is owned by Carlsberg - a Danish company.

St Paddy's day is awfully cheesy here in NZ. The green I wore to golf on Saturday was restrained - unlike some I saw.

And the cricket - whee! Ireland beats Pakistan and Bangladesh beats India! Go the Netherlands against Australia!

When I lived at one of the hostels at university, every St Patrck's day all the milk would be dyed green. I have seen many more flamboyant and over the top things since but that kind of thing really sticks in the mind.

All I'm thinking is don't let the underdog thing get too far - NZ has to play Kenya next. The Kenyans can wait until the following game for their turn to stage upset.

Think of it this way: New Zealand is the underdog. After all, Kenya made it further than NZ at the last World Cup.

Thanks, although I'm not sure I needed to be reminded of that.
