I have a considerable amount to say about the process that finally led to this, but I don't propose to discuss that here. Buy me a drink at the con and I'll explain all. In the end, I'm happy with the ballot and congratulate all the nominees.

Yes, things here do seem to be in a slow steady decline and I'm sure the reasons you cite are a big part of it. For whatever reason, local fandom has failed to attract a new generation of people interested in clubs and cons.

On the other hand, things in Aussie are quite strong - the Ditmars have plenty of entries and interest. The resurgence in activity over there seems, to a large extent, to be writer driven. There are a big number of people who write or want to write who are using the conventions as their meeting grounds. There is a new younger generation coming through who want to organise things. We aren't seeing that here.
