Whenever I start a new job I buy myself a present. Something to do with celebrating that great god - Income Stream. The items have varied but its usually a toy of some sort. Once it was a new car. What does it say about where I'm at these days that I bought a domain name?

What is it? And what are you going to do with it?

It's something I've often considered doing, but I've never been able to give myself a satisfactory answer to the last of the above questions.

threemonkeys.co.nz I don't really have anything serious to do with it either - it just seemed like a good idea at the time.

However for a reason that is slightly less than compelling, I do have it pointing at this blog. Should I ever move the blog, I just redirect the url to point it at the new location. Given the way LiveJournal has been behaving of late, there may be a reason to move.

Then there is the reason that I don't want anybody else grabbing it when I do think of a reason to use it.

How do you do that? Paradise seems to want to charge me an arm and a leg for anything to do with domain names that aren't part of paradise -- and that's rather more body parts than I'm willing to sacrifice...

Go to freeparking.co.nz. $40 bucks a year will secure your domain with no other charges ($75 for 2 years). This basic cost includes url redirection. Email in your own domain costs extra.

And if I can put in a plug for simplename.co.nz which is cheaper and also run by a friend of mine. :-)

And if you want to do email for your domain, I really recommend Gmail for Domains. It's just like Gmail but you can use your own domain name instead of Gmail.com.
