I'm struggling to say anything original about Janet Evanovich's Fearless Fourteen. I mean what can you say about the 14th (not counting a few specials) book in the same setting with the same characters. But that just prompts the question as how the heck Evanovich can keep turning out the books themselves. More importantly, how she keeps them fresh and funny and not fall into stale formula. Its well documented that there as a bit of a slump on that front but then a return to form which is continued and then some with this one. Don't look to me to the answer of how she does it - I just enjoy the result.

I guess it's like finding out there's a dozen Serano novels or any other monster number of series' - You're either hooked or not on the charicters and can forgive the occasional bad amongst the good.

Exactly. Although because there were a number of ordinary ones in a row, I was on the verge of giving up on this one when it turned around just in time.

But does that make it worth continuing on from there or would you ditch the series if the next one reverts to turkey?

Its probably a ratio thing. There have been 4 good ones in a row, so that means its possible to forgive one bad one, but 2 poorer ones in a row would really strain things.
