Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition
May. 14th, 2008 01:23 pmMan dressed as Darth Vader attacked Jedis - I'm not sure what disturbs me most about this report. The attack and its motivation or the fact that somebody has seen fit to actually establish a Jedi church ("Church of Jediism").
Yes I know it could just be a bit of fun like the census returns but y'know I suspect that they may be serious.

Date: 2008-05-14 05:44 am (UTC)I'm not too up on this religion business but I think there might just be more to it than silly costumes, cheap wine, and made up names... altho... other religions have that too, but they do tend to have a few deities to worship and that sort of stuff. Last time I checked Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor were still just blokes. I think what the Jedi's have is a fan club, and that can't be religious because everyone knows that religion is supposed to promote good and yet fandom is evil. ;)

But something in the tone of the article (and in the BBC one too) made me think about the portion of any fandom that really do worship what they see on the screen in some way.
