Man dressed as Darth Vader attacked Jedis - I'm not sure what disturbs me most about this report. The attack and its motivation or the fact that somebody has seen fit to actually establish a Jedi church ("Church of Jediism").

Yes I know it could just be a bit of fun like the census returns but y'know I suspect that they may be serious.

The BBC report on this <http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/wales/north_west/7360871.stm> has an interesting (if groanworthy) addition:

'Earlier, when Hughes failed to arrive on time, District Judge Andrew Shaw issued an arrest warrant, adding: "I hope the force will soon be with him." '

Thanks for that link it helps confirm my suspicions about the seriousness of the Jediists. It also makes me glad I resisted the temptation to put a Force related title on the post. :-)

That's shocking and disgraceful. Wine in 10 litre boxes!

I'm not too up on this religion business but I think there might just be more to it than silly costumes, cheap wine, and made up names... altho... other religions have that too, but they do tend to have a few deities to worship and that sort of stuff. Last time I checked Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor were still just blokes. I think what the Jedi's have is a fan club, and that can't be religious because everyone knows that religion is supposed to promote good and yet fandom is evil. ;)

I wondered if 10 litres was a misprint - I would think that much alcohol would kill you. But then again - the phrase "oarty pack" comes to mind.

Well yes, it probably is a fan club - it is the most likely explanation (and therefore, of course, evil). But something in the tone of the article (and in the BBC one too) made me think about the portion of any fandom that really do worship what they see on the screen in some way.
