Sick again today. I have been low level ill for so many weeks I have lost count - functional but well below par. But in the last week or so I thought I had got through it. I was feeling pretty well back to my best, such as that is. But today was not good. It isn't even as if this is the first time I have been through this cycle. Very annoying as I had some important stuff to do today which I don't think will keep well.

On the plus side I did get some reading done. Woken Furies by Richard Morgan continues on from where the last work left off. The quality level keeps up too. What impresses me about Mprgan's work is the density of it without losing clarity. By density I refer to the amount of story, character development and scene definition. This work is laden with these and yet is still a page turning action tale. Don't start with this one - read Altered Carbon and Broken Angels first.

I suspect that Metro Girl by Janet Evanovich didn't sell as well as expected. Why else would I have been able to buy it for a pittance. I suppose lots of people, like me, only wanted another Stephanie Plum story. Yet in some ways it is a better book than any Stephanie Plum story - it has a better constructed and more detailed plot. But basically it is an attempt to clone the original series with a new cast. The tone of the lightweight Plum stories is there making it a fun entertaining read. While the central characters are good, what it obviously lacks is the eccentric supporting cast - there is an attempt to create a new set but they just don't stand out. A quick snack of a read but well worth the pittance.
