Went to Phoenix PIG tonight and managed to stay 3 hours without anger effects like last time - progress.

What is more I even participated in a discussion about chemistry where the eyes of the other participants didn't glaze over immediately. I got to explain the chemical structure of fats and even show that my phone has a periodic table application loaded on it. Is that sad or what. As a side effect, later I found this flash animation of Tom Lehrer's Element song.

I once claimed that the major benefit I got from my chemistry degree was the ability to say 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine when drunk. Since most people couldn't even say it when they were sober, this gained me lots of brownie points. (All right, all right -- if they want to say Brady's Reagent, I suppose they can). I once also confounded a pharmacist by asking her for an insect repellent that contained diethyltoluamide. The shock of meeting someone who could not only pronounce it, but who also knew what it was was quite profound.

I enjoyed our chemistry chat. I always enjoy our chemistry chats. Particularly since (as I pointed out to Richard) you seem to have retained rather more of it than I have, so sometimes I re-learn things from you...

It goes both ways - I re-learnt 2,4-dnp from you as a result of a certain quiz team. Once reminded I was at least able to remember how it worked.
